I started off my day in a very new, very comfortable bed that was purchased at Ikea (My first time there! Ty and I handled ourselves very well.). Ty needed a bed for his new house and so we got the cheapest but we thought, most comfortable bed. Oh yes, and brand new pillows that were perfect for head/neck support.
Ty and I ventured out to explore a little bit of DC. We got to see the Washington monument and some others from a distance. We didn't have a whole lot of time since my bus back to Philly was at 1:30. In fact this whole weekend wasn't so much for fun but to move the guy into his new place and buy a bed! (Although, side note, we did have dinner at this amazing vegan place, Fare Well. Delicious, delicious food!)
Anyway, the weather was perfect, I didn't need a jacket and the sun was shining bright! We walked around a bit before realizing that we needed to get back to his place before I needed to catch my bus.
Walking to the bus, we realized that it took a little longer then expected and carrying my semi-heavy backpack, I started sweating like a pig that sweats. (Thats my new saying because, fyi, pigs don't sweat, thats why they roll around in the mud. Well, they roll around in the mud to cool off and to protect their almost hairless skin from getting sunburnt... I digress.)
We got to the greyhound station through the very large and confusing union station with a few minutes to spare. We went to go stand in line and then the time for the bus to leave came and passed. After it was late for 30 minutes, Ty went to go ask about it and found out the but wasn't even there so he went to get me snacks and water for my long journey (what a guy!). And still the bus didnt come. What really gets me is there was this long line of people and the people in charge did not tell us that the bus was late or anything, it was so rude. All they would have had to do was say "hey everyone, your bus isn't here so we are expecting a delay" and I would have completely forgiven them but they didnt say anything to us so we all just sat their waiting in the dark until Ty went to ask and he said they were even rude to him about it. One pet peeve of mine is people being late and but it can be forgiven if it is not constant and if they explain things. Have the decency to inform people about it.
Before I rant about lateness and how that is being rude about other people's precious time, I shall continue with my day: An hour late and Ty wanted to get moving so we said goodbye and by an hour and 15 minutes I was on the bus and pulling out of the station. The bus was packed and freezing. Why are busses always so dang cold? Why are you blasting the AC when its only like 65-70 outside?? Makes NO since. I had two jackets on. Oh, and a lovely, but very large woman, sat next to me so I couldn't really move...
So I got to Philly and JUST missed the train by a few minutes but I used that time to walk down to beautiful city hall in the evening. On the way there I passed a clarinet player and I just had to give him a tip. I rummaged for a few small bills and change and dropped it in the box as I passed. We both smiled at each other and he said "thank you so much!" I took that as an invitation to tell him why I felt the need to tip (besides the fact that it was beautiful music). So I said "I used to play clarinet!" And that turned into about a 5-10 minute conversation about pursuing your passions. His name was Aaron and we both played clarinet and a bit of sax so it was "fate", as he put it, that we met. He was a very joyous person that just made my heart explode with happiness. We both wished each other a good night and I was off smiling, ready to explore.
One of my favorite things is having the time to just wander throughout a city. You get to know it so much better then following a map for letting someone lead you. When you let the streets lead you, they take you on a journey to discover wonderful things, new things, weird things, awesome things, crazy things! It felt so good to sit by the city hall and just watch the fountain, lit up by the evening lights. The night was just perfect. One of those fall evenings that we all hope for. It was just the right amount of chill in the air to make you fold your arms as you walk but not cool enough that the wind bites at your skin. One could not wish for a better night.
I got picked up at the train station with warm veggie lasagna waiting for me, and a pear dessert. What a great end to the day! Its been a long travel day full of ups (beautiful clarinet music) and downs (delayed bus) but overall, pretty solid. Goodnight! Until next time!
