Bahamian Adventure to Clifton Heritage Park

I don’t know how it all seems to work for Ty and I all the time on our international adventures, but it does. Which is why I was willing to start this adventure this morning... but let’s catch you up from the beginning. Yesterday...

Ty and I arrived on the island yesterday afternoon and our Airbnb hosts were lovely. We decided to take advantage of the warmer weather and go snorkeling at the local beach. We walked down there and the snorkeling wasn’t really good... neither were the free beaches.
Instead, we sat on a break wall and watched the beautiful blue waves crash.

I was so tired last night that we went to bed around 9 and then woke up at 6:30 to be able to get ourselves organized for an adventure!

We wanted to visit Clifton heritage park on the west side of the island but no busses went all the way there. We decided to just go with the adventure and we hopped on a bus that would take us within 2 miles of the entrance.

As we went along, the bus that was once packed, started getting empty. At the final bus stop, the last person got off and the bus driver said “let me show you how far you would have had to walk if you got off here” and proceeded to drive to the park entrance. We had to give him a few extra dollars but we got there!

The park has some ruins, a garden and trails along the water. We had the beaches all to ourselves! There were rocky beaches and sandy beaches and it looked like the park at one time had little shops or stalls set up. We decided not to go snorkeling because it was very wavy, windy and pretty chilly. The snorkeling looked ok from the beach but not good enough to get cold over haha. Instead we hiked the beach the whole way and enjoyed the quiet by the water. The hiking was lovely.

When we got back to the welcome center, we first went to get some water and then figure out how we were getting back. We asked in the gift shop and they said “oh, no bus comes down here unless they were told to come back. Closest bus stop is two miles away!” But they told us to ask security if they knew if there was a bus coming.

We went and talked to a very nice security man who was unsure if a bus would come back. We said ok and went to finish exploring the park (a five minute walk to the bluffs and back). He then found us and told us that after he was done work in an hour that he could give us a ride. We were very grateful.

We were the last tourists at the park when the security guard, Mario, waved for us to come with him. He was a very nice gentleman who began telling us about the island and good spots to eat. He dropped us off near the Airbnb and we walked the last little bit back.

At our Airbnb we have been cooking our meals because it’s cheaper. It’s been fun to just chill and relax.

Not much to walk to and see at night here in cable beach but it is a safe place to walk around as a tourist. Some shops and a few restaurants but the vacation really begins tomorrow, at the all inclusive!!

The Cake Fairy

Today was a pretty standard weekend here in PA. I dont do much but hope that its nice out so I can go for a walk and explore on my own, but the sun didnt come shining through my window this morning to wake me up. I slept in. After a few hours of lounging around watching youtube videos about history, I asked Cassie if she wanted to explore the town. We decided to take a visit to a local winery/brewery, Stone & Key Cellars, to do some tastings. They had quite the spread of things to taste and we were overwhelmed! Fruit wines and your typical whites and reds, cider and mede! I started out with some of the red fruit wines and Cassie with the white fruits. They were all a bit sweet for me so I moved right into the bold reds. We got four tastings each and shared our tastes but also, the bartender was super cool and gave us more tastings of whatever he wanted! He was talking to us about the local area and what breweries to check out next in our exploration of Pennsylvania. Going to ...

Bio Bay, PR positives

The coolest part of our trip to Puerto Rico was definitely the Bioluminescent Bay in Vieques [side note, bioluminescence is a big word, mostly it just means stuff that lights up but scientifically it means 'bio'-life, 'lumin'-light, 'escence'-to put forth. So, life that puts forth light!] It was an experience that I cannot easily put into words. The night started out a bit strange. We got picked up at our hostel at 9pm, along with 5 other girls, by a thirty-something, long-haired gentleman. He walked us about a block to the van that would transport us to the bio-bay. The van was, well, to put it nicely, a fixer-upper. It had bench seats which were collapsing, the roof fabric was falling down, it puttered around and squeaked during turns. Ty and I joked that we were paying 40 bucks to get murdered in this van especially when we turned down a dirt, side street that was full of pot holes. We slowly lumbered along this road for a few minutes until we made it to our ...

Eating Like Crap is Crap

Im trying really hard not to spend money on food as there is so much food here at camp. Its not horrible food but its definitely not the best. So, with me trying not to spend money on food, I haven't been eating the greatest. I don't know if its because of other reasons, but Ive been feeling like shit lately and Im attributing it to lack of nutrients. I dont know how people eat crap all the time and survive. It must be a skill. I was eating alright about two weeks ago but this last week it hasn't been very pretty. Ive been a scavenger and theres been a lot of bread and fake meat and here is how I feel: Im tired ALL the time. No matter how many naps I take or hours I sleep a night, Im always exhausted by mid-day and just want to lay around, sleep and do nothing. Ive also been starting to get weak headaches throughout the day. Or having sore muscles from doing minimal exercise. That also makes me just want to do nothing. My stomach is also crazy. It hurts if I eat som...
