Christmas is a very special holiday for many people and I don't want to take it away from you.
For me, its the most annoying day and I want to explain why.
I don't like the stress of having to find the perfect gift for people. What if this person gets me something and I have nothing for them in return? And all the money you're spending on something they might not even like? What has this holiday of love and giving really turned into? Greed.
I cannot stand the gaudiness that has surrounded the holiday either. Blow-up santas and expensive flashing christmas lights. Can you imagine the cost that some of these houses have over the holidays? The disgusting red and green color scheme and jolly tunes bombarding your eyes and ears everywhere you turn. Christmas is the most wonderful time of the year? Yeah right, can you spell s-t-r-e-s-s for the majority of the adult population? The music is supposed to make you feel happy and joyful but its like going on the "its a small world" ride at disney a million times and then bashing your head open with a rock in hopes that the song will leave your mind at peace. I mean really, "Baby It's Cold Outside" is the most stalker-ish song Ive ever heard...
And the fact that everyone must celebrate this holiday blows my mind. You can find Christmas EVERYWHERE, its mainstream even if its not your thing. Every store is closed and everyone gets off of work. What if you don't celebrate this holiday? Or what if you're all alone and have nothing to do on that day? Well, you're stuck at home feeling sorry for yourself cause there is LITERALLY nowhere you can go. Except some select bars, but lets be honest, thats almost more sad then staying at home in the first place.
Also, Christmas is bombarding on some of my other favorite holidays. Halloween for example. The Christmas decorations have started coming out either on Halloween or the day after Halloween. I'd love to just bask in my post-Halloween love-glow but I can't cause Im assaulted by the new ostentatious Christmas decorations coming out! And you can forget about spending Thanksgiving in peace. By then Santa has already made his place on your neighbors lawn and most radio stations have forgotten that November even exists and have gone straight for that annoying trend of Christmas music.
So, I decided Im not doing Christmas anymore. I don't like feeling like I HAVE to get someone a gift. If I wanted to get someone something, it would be at a most random time when I feel like I found something special for them. A time when they would be least expecting it. Isn't that a better gift anyway? My friends and family all know how much they mean to me and buying them things does not mean they are more or less meaningful in my life.
So, Merry Christmas I guess...
