Its a Small Island

I learned how to drive the dingy Friday. It was really intimidating but it gave me so much freedom to dingy around on my day off. I cleaned the boat like a crazy person cause I was able to spend some time there during the day. My suitcase is off the floor now! Woohoo! Trying to make it a little more homey since I may be there a little bit longer...

Finding an apartment has proven very difficult. Finding honest people on this island is rough. I may have a lead on a two bedroom buuuuut now I need a roommate. Im talking to everyone. Its frustrating.

So, I went on a little adventure with Amber this morning. We took the safari which is this bus type service that takes you around the island. Now, I want to explain this safari thing for those of you who dont have a visual so you will understand the island and my adventure a bit better... Its a great service, its only a dollar or two depending on where you're going but its a bunch of benches essentially on the back of a truck with an awning and open sides. Its usually metal and the trucks are older and run-down. its quite an interesting experience then what I'm used to haha

Amber wanted to go to town to buy some sunglasses from Sunglass Hut which said was open sunday from 9a-2p. So we got there and its closed. And then the number that is on their website is out of service. Welcome to the Virgin Islands! I however found a cheap pair of sunglasses to replace my broken ones that Ive been wearing for weeks lol.

Then Amber decides that it would be fun to go to the West end of the island to check out the Vegan fest. Now, mind you, I had to be back at Red Hook at 1 to see an apartment and it was already 11. so we take the safari as far as it'll go west and grab another free truck ride to the festival. It was pretty cool with all vegan foods, fresh fruits and veggies, plants, and music. I could only enjoy it for 30 minutes before I went to wait for the free ride back to the safari again.

I wait for 15 minutes for the shuttle to show up, then take the bumpy, windy ride back to the safari, get on the safari and the driver is insane. He's driving like such a maniac that I debate getting off to grab another one. But once he gets out of the city, he drives slower and I don't feel like Im going to die. It takes me about 40 minutes to get from one end of the safari back to the east end.

So, Im starting to get a little frustrated with this place. Dont get me wrong, Im happy Im here and Im making bank at work but not having an apartment is annoying. Thank goodness Ty is letting me stay with him for free. He's the best. Another thing, is that sometimes I like to be anonymous. I like to walk down the street and not acknowledge anyone, go somewhere and chill alone and thats hard to do here. the more people I get to know, the more I realize that literally every east ender knows every other east ender. Which is fine, but then they start talking. I dont care about everyones business and I dont want everyone to know mine. So its going to be a bit of a challenge to keep to myself.

Step one: find an apartment.

Bio Bay, PR positives

The coolest part of our trip to Puerto Rico was definitely the Bioluminescent Bay in Vieques [side note, bioluminescence is a big word, mostly it just means stuff that lights up but scientifically it means 'bio'-life, 'lumin'-light, 'escence'-to put forth. So, life that puts forth light!] It was an experience that I cannot easily put into words. The night started out a bit strange. We got picked up at our hostel at 9pm, along with 5 other girls, by a thirty-something, long-haired gentleman. He walked us about a block to the van that would transport us to the bio-bay. The van was, well, to put it nicely, a fixer-upper. It had bench seats which were collapsing, the roof fabric was falling down, it puttered around and squeaked during turns. Ty and I joked that we were paying 40 bucks to get murdered in this van especially when we turned down a dirt, side street that was full of pot holes. We slowly lumbered along this road for a few minutes until we made it to our ...

Eating Like Crap is Crap

Im trying really hard not to spend money on food as there is so much food here at camp. Its not horrible food but its definitely not the best. So, with me trying not to spend money on food, I haven't been eating the greatest. I don't know if its because of other reasons, but Ive been feeling like shit lately and Im attributing it to lack of nutrients. I dont know how people eat crap all the time and survive. It must be a skill. I was eating alright about two weeks ago but this last week it hasn't been very pretty. Ive been a scavenger and theres been a lot of bread and fake meat and here is how I feel: Im tired ALL the time. No matter how many naps I take or hours I sleep a night, Im always exhausted by mid-day and just want to lay around, sleep and do nothing. Ive also been starting to get weak headaches throughout the day. Or having sore muscles from doing minimal exercise. That also makes me just want to do nothing. My stomach is also crazy. It hurts if I eat som...

Summerfest Day 1

Amazing. I was just going tonight to hang and  see some bands, no expectations, but SFest delivered on its first day. My friend Alex and I got there a bit early so we walked around the shops and the smaller stages. We stumbled upon Five Knives which were like a hip-hop-y Ke$ha. If you know me at all you'd know that I probably loved it. They were pretty fun. Then a bit later when we were sitting watching a local sax band play, the fireworks started. I never NEED to see the big bang but its always a pleasure when I see it. I got great seats by accident sitting on a table. I always have a smile on my face when I watch colorful explosions in the sky. Then, the white out, massive explosion that is the epic finale. I couldn't see anything for at least a minute afterwards. I love when the loudness is felt in your heart and there is so much going on that its just a colorful mess. Most excellent. Then we went to find Bastille. As soon as they came on I was extremely impressed. H...
