Apartment Hunting

Its been almost a week since my last update.

My lip is almost completely healed. Theres just some scar tissue that makes a small bump on my lip that only I notice and hopefully goes away in the next few days.

I did my orientation for The Ritz this week. I learned all about how to be refined and give the guests everything they want and more. Its kinda crazy; Im not really that type of person so we will see how this all goes. But I did meet some cool people in my orientation. A few I thought of rooming with but it didn't work out. Heres the story:

My coworker, lets call her Ray, is also looking for a place with her sister. She mentioned that if everything worked out, we could get a two bedroom so her and her sister could share a room and I could have the other. It would cut costs for all of us, it'd be great. After talking to Ray for the first two days of orientation, I really liked her and hoped that her sister would be equally as cool. She was relaxed, quiet, mentioned being clean and seemed very chill. She is a little older but that didn't bother me at all.

After work on the second day, Ray said that her and her sister were going to check out a place and I should come along. She told me about the place and it seemed a little pricy but the location and everything else was perfect.

I walked out to where we were going to meet, right outside the main employee offices, and my first impression of her sister was this: She was standing next to Ray with a sundress on, flip flops and holding a Ritz Carlton beverage which was obviously an alcoholic beverage. Now, they are not staying on the property at all and the sister, lets call her Karly, was in fact applying to The Ritz and here she was with an alcoholic beverage in a Ritz cup standing outside of the offices. huh…

So we meet, she seems high strung but not too annoying until she starts making up this story about how we should tell the landlord only the two of them want to live there and I'm just a friend. But why? The guy never said only two people could live there and I don't want to be a secret roommate… Ray just says “lets just go and see what happens” but Karly wont let it go. I hate making up stories and there was no need to anyway!

We then start walking up the big hill out of The Ritz. She starts complaining immediately about how everything hurts and the hill is so steep. Ray and I just keep walking and ignoring her. Once we get to the top of the hill we wait for Karly and look who got a ride in the golf cart… Ray and I expect her to get out of the golf cart and start walking with us again but she yells out “get in ladies, he’s gonna take us all the way up and out!” Reluctantly, Ray and I hop in the back…

We get to the entrance of The Ritz where the man drops us off and Karly starts mumbling “oh! thanks so much, you deserve a tip. Here hold this!” She hands him her beverage and digs through her purse while a few cars are waiting behind. I walk away from annoyance and not wanting to be associated with her, Ray follows and soon we are on our adventure to look at the apartment.

Ray received really strange directions from the man renting out the place (No place here really has an address so its all like this “go to the yaht club, get to the beach, take a right, walk along the beach until you get to a rocky outcropping and then follow that up until you get to a pink building and ill meet you there, its the second apartment on the left.” Its strange…). So as we are heading down to the beach through another hotel, Karly starts complaining that she has to use the restroom and ducks into a building in the hotel to find a bathroom, taking her drink with her so they can put more ice in it… …

So as we start walking again, Karly starts asking me questions about myself. Where Im working, where Im staying now, if I like dogs (cause she has two) and then asks if I have a boyfriend. “uhhh… yesss?” I say cause I didn't officially until last night ;) This starts the rant about no boys in the house. “Yeah, we dont want any boys in the house. If anyone comes to visit, I would hope they have enough money to stay in a hotel, blah, blah, blah.” Now, I completely understand where she is coming from and all but… I primarily have guy friends. Jake is coming down to visit somtime. Im not going to put him in a hotel, he’s staying with me and Ty is going to stay with me too; thats the point of me getting a house so that Ty and I can have access to a shower and kitchen off the boat. So at that point, I decide I cant live with them and completely shut down.

Im not going to bore you with details of the adventure to the house anymore but theres more bitching and moaning and weird comments from Karly until we meet the landlord who is an older southern gentleman who gave me the “wierdo” vibe immediately. Right after introductions, Karly promptly tells the dude Im just a friend coming to check out the place and says so about four more times while we are inside looking around that it starts to get SO annoying and suspicious. Once I look around at the beautiful apartment one time, Im ready to check out and head home but Karly keeps talking about nothing to the landlord.

We are all conversing on the patio when the gentleman asks us what we do at The Ritz. Ray explains that she will be at the front of the house, Karly explains that she's probably going to have a job there soon because she's had two interviews and I say that Im an Ambassador of the Environment. That sparks the gentleman to start making fun of my job. “At The Ritz? Seems like an oxymoron. That used to be such a nice turtle beach and then they built that hotel there and all the turtles went away… the reef there is all destroyed…” etc… I tune him out and get so pissed. As soon as I can, I tell Ray that Ive gotta go. She is such a sweetheart telling me about how she cant wait to snorkel with us at work but the gentleman waves me goodbye and says “If you ever want to know about turtles, let me know” I reply in my most snarky voice “Oh, I did research on turtles, thanks” and with a sarcastic, bitchy smile, I turn and walk away.

And thats why I cant be refined. When people piss me off, Im a sarcastic bitch right back at em.

Dear Old Friend

Dear old friend, I think about you a lot. As I go about my day I think about how something might make you laugh or say aloud an inside joke that no one understands. I smile as I remember a fond memory. But then I go about my day. At night is when I think about trying to reach out to you again. About what I should have said or what I should say to try to understand why we are no longer close. I come up with scripts in my head about a letter I should write you or a voice mail I should leave, so you know how much I miss you. Sometimes I get angry. Why did this friendship not last forever like I was sure it would? What did I ever do to be treated this way? How could you just leave me alone? Do you even care how I am? I ask myself these questions over and over. I get mad. Then I think. I think that you must not have done this to hurt me; sometimes people just drift apart. That you probably think about me sometimes too. That perhaps, sometimes you smile at an old memory we share. Gut...

Runners High

At 12:30pm, I stepped outside for the first time all day. I hadn't really even left my room until I realized that if I didnt go outside, I probably would bum it all afternoon. I put my running shoes on and bounced outside. I started walking and after I got myself settled, I started to run. After being cooped up, those first few steps of an outdoor run is so magical. The feeling of freedom, fresh air and adrenaline is fantastic. I always have a mad smile and excitement for being able to move so fast. After my first few minutes of running, thats when the exhaustion sets in. What keeps me going longer, is adventure. Do I like running? Not really. Do I enjoy exploring? Obviously. I decided to check out a new part of the power line trail that I have not seen before and ran up the hills, or on straight path, and walked down hills. I went to the beginning of the trail and back again, smiling at the other people who were also out for their afternoon walk/bike. The sun came out and it...

Longest Day Ever

This is the longest day of my life. Literally. No, like actually literally. Or maybe a bunch of the shortest days of my life...anyway... We started off in Wisconsin, not early but it wasn't leisurely either. Then the bus to the airport in Chicago where we were to catch our first flight to shanghai. When we checked in we were informed that we were given an illegal flight through china on our way back home. Apparently you can't even have a layover in an airport for longer than 24 hours in China. The airline was nice about it and helped us in anyway they could but they told us we would have to call our booking agency because it was their fault, not the airline itself. Good thing we gave ourselves plenty of time in the airport because we needed all of that time to figure it out. I called the company that gave us our tickets and the first thing the gentleman said was that we would have to pay a change fee on top of the price for the new ticket. I was not happy with that so I inquir...
