The Beach Bar

Saturday night Ty, Amber and I decided to go out in Red Hook. There was a DJ from the States that was playing at a local bar but she started super late, like midnight… So in order for us to be able to stay awake that late, we all took a nap before going out. Getting up from the nap was hard but it was worth it! Ty and I had a few drinks before meeting up with Amber and then made our way over to where the DJ would be. It was a 15 dollar cover and drinks were not cheap either, but it was all so I would be able to dance! The DJ was a young woman who also sang. She was alright. Ty had to leave early cause he had to work in the A.M. but Amber and I stuck around till the early morning.

All I have to say is after a night out, it sucked having to go sleep on a boat…

I slept in pretty late the next morning on my day off. I usually get up no later then 8:30 but I was still in bed at 10:30! Then, Amber invited me on one of her adventures. Being extremely tired and maybe a little hungover, I was hesitant to say yes, but I invited another one of my friends along for the ride as well who had a car so I wouldn't feel trapped.

We didn't get moving until 12:30-1 and all met somewhere to get lunch. Amber and I split mozzarella sticks and sweet potato fries. The night before I had craved my deep fried cheese curds, a necessity on my nights out in MKE, so mozz sticks were a great snack for me.

After meeting a bunch of new people, it was time to go on our adventure. We were hiking to a new beach bar that was mostly for boats and wasn't really drivable, so hiking was our best bet. It was an adventure to say the least. We had to hike along a rocky beach, then do some rock climbing up a small cliff face, through a cactus infested trail and along a grassy road that I now dub the “lawn mower trail” because there were about 5 lawn mowers just hanging out scattered along the way. I was happy that I had worn my hiking Tevas. Most everyone else was not ready for the adventure wearing flip flops and skirts. Always be prepared on St. Thomas.

So because I had lacked sleep from the night before, the adventure sure took a lot out of me.  By the time we made it to the beach bar (probably an hour later), I was ready to turn around already. Even though I was hot from the hike, the water was still too cold for me to do any real snorkeling so I just hung out in the shade and relaxed. I also tried to get a drink but there was WAY too much alcohol for me to tolerate at the time.

The sun was setting and I was worried we would have to hike and scale down a cliff in the dark, so we all packed up shop and started the trek back. We were all exhausted, but the way back was WAY quicker, probably because we knew where we were going.

Once we all got back to the east end, I called Ty because I was ready to chill for the night, exhaustion really setting in. Ty had been at Australia day at a beach by where we live. All I could think about was Maddie and how she's in Australia but all the Australians were here :P
So, needless to say, Ty had quite the good time on the beach and had indulged a bit too much. I walked to meet up with him, then we walked back to the beach. We also had a shorter adventure walk. Some car tried to drive on the foot path and Ty had to give them directions so they wouldn't ruin their car. He did so by dancing in front of the car saying “just keep backing up!” He did a lot of dancing that night to the sound of his own humming.

Once we got to the beach, it had mostly cleared out except for a few diehard Australians who were having a massive bon fire. It was pretty cool but everyone there except me was very intoxicated. The rest of the evening consisted of making sure my dude got something to eat, drank lots of water and didn't fall over or step on anything pokey.

Being horizontal at the end of that day was glorious. I slept SO good.

Runners High

At 12:30pm, I stepped outside for the first time all day. I hadn't really even left my room until I realized that if I didnt go outside, I probably would bum it all afternoon. I put my running shoes on and bounced outside. I started walking and after I got myself settled, I started to run. After being cooped up, those first few steps of an outdoor run is so magical. The feeling of freedom, fresh air and adrenaline is fantastic. I always have a mad smile and excitement for being able to move so fast. After my first few minutes of running, thats when the exhaustion sets in. What keeps me going longer, is adventure. Do I like running? Not really. Do I enjoy exploring? Obviously. I decided to check out a new part of the power line trail that I have not seen before and ran up the hills, or on straight path, and walked down hills. I went to the beginning of the trail and back again, smiling at the other people who were also out for their afternoon walk/bike. The sun came out and it...

Giant Galapagos Tortoises

Because we practically didn't sleep for two days in a row, we slept in and had a slow morning. Well, other people slept in. I was wide awake at 7:15 am and was too excited to lay in bed till 8. So I got up and did yoga on our second story patio. The sun, which was struggling to come out behind some wispy clouds, felt amazing on my skin and the warm air was exactly what I had needed that morning. I got my heart pumping a bit and then jumped on the bed to wake Ty up. "We're in the Galapagos! Get up, get up, get up!" We were waiting for our travel companions to join us for breakfast and a morning exploring the Charles Darwin Research Center, but they never came so we went off to get some of the "best coffee in the Galapagos" and slowly meander through the Research Station, hoping they would join later. Little did we know, Jake was passed out until 11am! He was sick though and needed it to feel healthy for the rest of the trip! We took our time reading the s...

A Trashy Morning

Wednesday morning I organized a beach clean-up. I had been wanting to clean up the beach that I walk past every day to work for 5 months. A beach that is absolutely TRASHED. So I posted on Facebook and asked a few friends if they could spare the time to help. I figured that I would be out there by myself but I had two other people help me! Someone from Facebook who read my post and decided to join and my roomie Scott. We started bright and early at 9am, it was cloudy but still pretty humid. We started with some kitchen bags from my house. We filled up four of then pretty quick and then on the walk to the dumpster, filled up a few small plastic bags. When Scott showed up he tackled a small section that was trashed with soda and water bottles. I was going to leave that section alone as it was in the trees a bit but he cleared it out making it look so nice! I wish I had taken a before and after picture. Once we filled up all the bags I had brought, we decided to grab a few more from t...
