On Vacation... Kinda. [Part 2]

So we start walking along the road to some impressive mangrove swamp. Ty is obsessed with mangroves and seeing some this huge made him so happy. The prop roots were over our heads!! It was insane. Ty took about a million pictures of himself with the ginormous mangroves and then it was time for us to continue our adventure. This is where it gets a bit tricky...

We walked along the road to another beach where we thought we could walk along the beach to another beach. It was a bit of a walk but we were able to go on a short walk to see a salt pond which was neat and smelly. Once we realized we couldn't walk along the beach (it got really rocky), we decided that our plan of action would be to try and hitch our way out.

There were no cars for at least a mile... We kept walking and walking with no luck. Cars kept going to the beach behind us but none were leaving. That didn't stop us however, we just kept no trucking along. Then we decided that if we got a ride back to Cruz bay, instead of going to cinnamon and doing a night snorkel there, we would jump on the chance. It was getting later, past 4 and we didn't want to miss any chances of getting back to the ferry dock.

Finally, we caught a ride half way. A nice gentleman picked us up and we made it back to centerline which is the road that goes down the center of the island... what else would you expect?

Once we were there, we decided to hang out at a smoothie place until we could catch a ride back. I thought for sure we were going to be there awhile. It had been about 5 minutes when we saw the bus approaching so we hailed it down and got a ride back for a dollar!

The ride back was interesting. There were a few drunk white people which always makes for an interesting time. The couple I was sitting next to were pretty annoying, chatting with an older couple across from us. The younger couple were talking about their horseshoe that they found for good luck, kept telling the older couple how cool and amazing they were and were commenting on the bus drivers speed. "Oh my are we on that movie Speed? I dont really want to die on a bus!" even though I felt completely safe on the bus... Tourists...

Once we got back to Cruz Bay, we took Jake to the VI brewers for a beer and then to Beach Bar for happy hour! We were able to sip 'painkillers' (a VI drink) on the beach and watch the sun set.

After relaxing on the beach with our drinks, we hopped on the ferry and headed back to my place to get ready for our night snorkel! Jake had never done a night snorkel before! We were all exhausted from the day but excited to snorkel in a new area.

We saw lots of cool things, a huge stingray! A porcupine and balloon puffer, lots of sleeping fishes, corals, lobster, sea turtle that swam SO fast and BIOLUMINESCENCE! Jake had never experienced this before so we took him out to deeper water and told him to turn his light off. Within seconds you could hear me and Ty giggling and laughing into our snorkels as we played with the light but nothing from Jake. I asked him if he saw anything and he said... "I see moonlight." So, I told him to wave his hands in front of his face underwater and he thought ty and I were just playing a trick on him to make him do weird things. He STILL didn't see it so Ty went over and moved water in front of him and finally he saw the twinkling lights of bioluminescence.

Needless to say, we packed in a lot and were exhausted. Ty even had to get up early the next day and I think he still hasn't recovered. It was super fun though!!

Runners High

At 12:30pm, I stepped outside for the first time all day. I hadn't really even left my room until I realized that if I didnt go outside, I probably would bum it all afternoon. I put my running shoes on and bounced outside. I started walking and after I got myself settled, I started to run. After being cooped up, those first few steps of an outdoor run is so magical. The feeling of freedom, fresh air and adrenaline is fantastic. I always have a mad smile and excitement for being able to move so fast. After my first few minutes of running, thats when the exhaustion sets in. What keeps me going longer, is adventure. Do I like running? Not really. Do I enjoy exploring? Obviously. I decided to check out a new part of the power line trail that I have not seen before and ran up the hills, or on straight path, and walked down hills. I went to the beginning of the trail and back again, smiling at the other people who were also out for their afternoon walk/bike. The sun came out and it...

Red = Passion

Yesterday, I had a shit-eating grin as I was winding through local streets, pedaling and feeling the warm breeze in my hair. I recently, in the last month, moved to the DC area and have been struggling to fit in and find my place. This month, Ty and I got our own room in a place that we share with a few others that are our roommates in our new town. But there are still so many things that are missing in my life. I need yoga, rock climbing and freedom to get around on my own. On Tuesday afternoon, I took that first step at transportation freedom in the form of a two wheeled vehicle. I took the metro to Virginia which is a bit of a ride from my new home on the Maryland side. I stopped at one of the last metro stops and walked out into the sunny, nice weather. I was meeting someone from craigslist who was selling a little, red Schwinn bike. I exited the station and immediately saw the little red bike being held up by a sweet looking, older man. I introduced myself, took the bike for a...

Giant Galapagos Tortoises

Because we practically didn't sleep for two days in a row, we slept in and had a slow morning. Well, other people slept in. I was wide awake at 7:15 am and was too excited to lay in bed till 8. So I got up and did yoga on our second story patio. The sun, which was struggling to come out behind some wispy clouds, felt amazing on my skin and the warm air was exactly what I had needed that morning. I got my heart pumping a bit and then jumped on the bed to wake Ty up. "We're in the Galapagos! Get up, get up, get up!" We were waiting for our travel companions to join us for breakfast and a morning exploring the Charles Darwin Research Center, but they never came so we went off to get some of the "best coffee in the Galapagos" and slowly meander through the Research Station, hoping they would join later. Little did we know, Jake was passed out until 11am! He was sick though and needed it to feel healthy for the rest of the trip! We took our time reading the s...
