PR Negatives

A lot of good things and a lot of not so good things happened to us on our trip to Puerto Rico and Id like to start with the bad news and end with the good news. So here are some things that did not turn out so well for us.

We took the ferry over to Vieques on Wednesday and we ended up being on that ferry for two and a half hours. Its normally about an hour trip but when we went on the ferry, they were doing some maintenance and we didn't even leave the dock for like 45 minutes. What was worse was we were in the bottom of the boat which was very crowded with only very tiny windows. I started feeling a little tiny bit claustrophobic and I never feel that way...

When we were leaving the boat, It was a struggle to get off. The organization of the boat was not very smart making the only three entrances exit through the same narrow hallway... and I hate when people need to stand so close to me. One man was standing so close to me (and I even had a suitcase) that I could almost feel him breathing on my hair. Not cool dude, just back off! I dont understand when people do this, your not getting out any faster by standing all up in my grill. I also feel like your trying to steal stuff out of my backpack/pockets by standing so damn close.

We rented a car the day we got back to Fajardo (PR) from Vieques so we could explore a bit more of El Yunque National Forrest! I didn't mind driving for the most part but when it got to navigating around the city, things got a bit tense between Ty and I.  Our roles should have been switched because I hate driving in cities I dont know and Ty hates navigating where as I love to navigate. Only problem was that Ty isn't old enough to rent a car yet and so I had to drive. We made it places in one piece but it was a bit rough. haha

Ok, here is the biggie for our vacation, our hotel for the last night. It was AWFUL, no, it was beyond awful. one thing after another happened and we kept getting disappointed to the point where at 11 pm we were thinking about heading to a new hotel. I wrote many dissatisfied reviews online and Ill attach my best one laying out all of the mis-haps.

“Not Picky but Worst Stay Ever/DO NOT STAY HERE”
1 of 5 starsReviewed yesterdayNEW
My boyfriend and I were spending a wonderful week in PR before we went our separate ways for a few months and because of the pictures online, and the cheaper price, we decided on this place for our last night. I was excited for what seemed like a cute, quaint place from the pictures but when we first walked in, we were taken aback. Im ok with one or two things wrong, Im not picky and we stayed at a beautiful hostel the night before. But here is everything that went wrong:

1) The place is NOTHING like the pictures online. Its run-down and old. It may have been cute 20 years ago but the neglect has taken its tole on this place. It looks awful.

2) The room was cold, dark, outdated and broken. The lamp had a leg missing and when touched at particular angle it fell over, the bathroom door had water damage and things were just generally run-down.

3) After dinner and a walk on the beach it was 11pm and we wanted to rinse off the salt/sand before bed and no water came out. When we went to the front desk they said "welcome to Puerto Rico" and told us to walk across the busy street to get a gallon of water. Mind you, we lived in St. Thomas which has water issues all the time but are taken care of much better than that. We weren't even warned or told about the lack of water which would have been nice, we could have planned ahead.
Once the water came back on the next morning, we turned on the shower and water trickled out and sprayed in weird directions which made it impossible to shower.

4) There was a party happening at the bar which was loud and boisterous until at least 11:30 pm. We were tired and could not relax or sleep.

5) We heard someone talking directly outside our windows and it sounded like they were in our room. Upon further inspection, the windows were made of plastic and had shutters on the outside which couldn't be open for sunlight, but I wouldn't want to see outside anyway, through the cracks in the shutters, I just saw tons of stuff piled up.

6) We had trouble connecting to the wifi to check mail and flight status for the next day. We were in our pajamas ready for bed and when my boyfriend went to mention this to the front desk we were told that it only really works in the lobby area and to go over there.

Never in my life have I stayed at someplace so horrible and Ive traveled quite a bit and can put up with quite a lot. The staff did not seem to care and my boyfriend and I spent our last night together upset and defeated. We even debated changing hotels at 11pm.

So that was upsetting to say the least. After staying at some perfect places we had to end our PR stay at a horrible place...

And the worst part of our trip by far was saying goodbye :( Whenever either of us would make a comment about leaving, we would pretend it wasn't happening, until it did happen. I watched him board his plane and then I had to walk away by myself and walk through the airport to my terminal/gate. I HATE crying in public and was walking throughout the airport sniffling and looking at the ground and then after 5 months of never really being alone, I was awkwardly sitting by myself at the gate. I and to buy a book to keep my attention and not think about me and my boy being in very different parts of the world...

Gosh, I hate ending with the sad things so Ill be fast with the awesome things about our trip!!

    Red = Passion

Yesterday, I had a shit-eating grin as I was winding through local streets, pedaling and feeling the warm breeze in my hair. I recently, in the last month, moved to the DC area and have been struggling to fit in and find my place. This month, Ty and I got our own room in a place that we share with a few others that are our roommates in our new town. But there are still so many things that are missing in my life. I need yoga, rock climbing and freedom to get around on my own. On Tuesday afternoon, I took that first step at transportation freedom in the form of a two wheeled vehicle. I took the metro to Virginia which is a bit of a ride from my new home on the Maryland side. I stopped at one of the last metro stops and walked out into the sunny, nice weather. I was meeting someone from craigslist who was selling a little, red Schwinn bike. I exited the station and immediately saw the little red bike being held up by a sweet looking, older man. I introduced myself, took the bike for a...

    To Brittian and Back

Today Amber, Dana and I woke up early to go on an adventure. 6:23 to be exact. How I know that is because Ty had to call me to wake Dana and I up from our very deep slumber. I sprung awake and got ready in record time to try to help Ty jump his car. Only it didn't work so we had to wake up my roommate to drive us all. The three ladies convened at the dock where our boat trip would leave. We were all a little tired but mostly excited for our long overdue adventure and being tourists for the day. We started our tip with about an hour long boat ride to Virgin Gorda, British Virgin Islands (BVI), the three of us talking about anything and everything that came to mind. Once we got to Virgin Gorda, everyone on the trip took a taxi over to the baths. The baths (BVI) are a geologic structure in which volcanic rock is pushed up near the water to create tunnels, pools, arches and grottoes. There are only two baths in the world, one being in the BVI, so it was super cool that we got to go...

    Runners High

At 12:30pm, I stepped outside for the first time all day. I hadn't really even left my room until I realized that if I didnt go outside, I probably would bum it all afternoon. I put my running shoes on and bounced outside. I started walking and after I got myself settled, I started to run. After being cooped up, those first few steps of an outdoor run is so magical. The feeling of freedom, fresh air and adrenaline is fantastic. I always have a mad smile and excitement for being able to move so fast. After my first few minutes of running, thats when the exhaustion sets in. What keeps me going longer, is adventure. Do I like running? Not really. Do I enjoy exploring? Obviously. I decided to check out a new part of the power line trail that I have not seen before and ran up the hills, or on straight path, and walked down hills. I went to the beginning of the trail and back again, smiling at the other people who were also out for their afternoon walk/bike. The sun came out and it...
