St. John, A Beautiful Adventure

My time off from work has been awesome so far! I love not working. haha.

Monday, Amber, Darren, a friend Johnny and I went on a boat adventure over to St. John. It was a small boat just a bit larger than the size of a dingy but it worked! The ride over was bumpy and rough. My butt still hurts a few days later but we got to see St. John from the water and a brown booby (bird) flew with us for awhile which was awesome. Then we found a beautiful cove with a tiny beach and pristine blue water.

We pulled the boat in and set the anchor but decided to pull in a little closer, when "well thats odd" came out of our captains mouth. I decided not to worry. Amber and I jumped into the blue water to explore. We got stung by a few things in the water so then got out and tried to track down the goats that were yelling like humans in the mangroves. At one point I was talking to one of the goats that was just out of eyesight. It was hilarious. Then we heard the sound of the engine starting so we made our way back to the boat. Slowly walking, barefoot to the water through the tangle of mangrove roots and then over rocks and critters in the shallows and finally to the dealer water. Not the way out were were able to avoid the long black spiny sea urchins which plagued us on the way in!

We hung out by the boat for a little bit with the engine running, holding onto the side and sipping some beers until it was time to adventure back. We stopped in Cruz Bay for happy hour and more beach time and because we were then surrounded by people who could help, we anchored and shut off the engine. It didn't take much for the boys to get it started again and we were back in St. Thomas in no time. A day in the sun is exhausting! I was so ready for bed that night!

Tuesday Ty and I went over to St. John for another hiking day. It was HOT! We took the bus out as far as it would take us and went on a long walk on the road to a cool beach where we ate lunch.

We were able to hitch a lot after our initial road walk which was nice. Our next trail was rough. We walked .7 miles out and back along steaming hot road with no wind. The view at the end was nice but it was damn hot. Not much to report there on that trail. But once we made it back to salt pond, we hiked Ram Head which was amazing. Spectacular views with wind and different terrain. The end of the hike was very much worth it as well. Heres Ty looking down at the ocean!

We hiked out and back the mile trail and then immediately jumped in the water! It was cool and refreshing and we got carried away in the crystal clear water that we lost track of time and ended up missing the bus which only comes every hour. So as we were sitting at the bus stop, some awesome couple on their honeymoon drove us to Coral Bay where they dropped us off at a bar. I felt like my parents at that moment. As long as Im at a bar Im ok!! Thats where we met this cool older dude who gave a ride all the way back across the island to Coral Bay!
There we had our hearts set on having dinner at this indian place but it was closed :(
But thats ok because we stumbled upon this fantastic italian place. We walked in super nasty from our hike but the service was still great, the food was delicious and we got to watch an amazing sunset, the only one that I've really seen on the islands.

It was perfect. a wonderful date night with my guy :) As we were sitting there, enjoying our meal, we were able to watch as day turned to night and a sliver of the moon poked out.

We took a night ferry back and while we were exhausted from hiking about 4 miles that day, our stomachs were happy and so were our souls! St. John is so beautiful and Ill miss that place.

Runners High

At 12:30pm, I stepped outside for the first time all day. I hadn't really even left my room until I realized that if I didnt go outside, I probably would bum it all afternoon. I put my running shoes on and bounced outside. I started walking and after I got myself settled, I started to run. After being cooped up, those first few steps of an outdoor run is so magical. The feeling of freedom, fresh air and adrenaline is fantastic. I always have a mad smile and excitement for being able to move so fast. After my first few minutes of running, thats when the exhaustion sets in. What keeps me going longer, is adventure. Do I like running? Not really. Do I enjoy exploring? Obviously. I decided to check out a new part of the power line trail that I have not seen before and ran up the hills, or on straight path, and walked down hills. I went to the beginning of the trail and back again, smiling at the other people who were also out for their afternoon walk/bike. The sun came out and it...

Red = Passion

Yesterday, I had a shit-eating grin as I was winding through local streets, pedaling and feeling the warm breeze in my hair. I recently, in the last month, moved to the DC area and have been struggling to fit in and find my place. This month, Ty and I got our own room in a place that we share with a few others that are our roommates in our new town. But there are still so many things that are missing in my life. I need yoga, rock climbing and freedom to get around on my own. On Tuesday afternoon, I took that first step at transportation freedom in the form of a two wheeled vehicle. I took the metro to Virginia which is a bit of a ride from my new home on the Maryland side. I stopped at one of the last metro stops and walked out into the sunny, nice weather. I was meeting someone from craigslist who was selling a little, red Schwinn bike. I exited the station and immediately saw the little red bike being held up by a sweet looking, older man. I introduced myself, took the bike for a...

Giant Galapagos Tortoises

Because we practically didn't sleep for two days in a row, we slept in and had a slow morning. Well, other people slept in. I was wide awake at 7:15 am and was too excited to lay in bed till 8. So I got up and did yoga on our second story patio. The sun, which was struggling to come out behind some wispy clouds, felt amazing on my skin and the warm air was exactly what I had needed that morning. I got my heart pumping a bit and then jumped on the bed to wake Ty up. "We're in the Galapagos! Get up, get up, get up!" We were waiting for our travel companions to join us for breakfast and a morning exploring the Charles Darwin Research Center, but they never came so we went off to get some of the "best coffee in the Galapagos" and slowly meander through the Research Station, hoping they would join later. Little did we know, Jake was passed out until 11am! He was sick though and needed it to feel healthy for the rest of the trip! We took our time reading the s...
