Guatemala: Lost and Found

9:21 A
We got a little turned around on our way to breakfast but glad we stuck with it and found it! At Fernando's Kaffe I ate crepes with fruit and chocolate. It was lovely and delicious! Such a cute place.

12:09pm
We just checked into El Hostel and its so nice. People, young people, hanging out in the common space which has an open air courtyard. Melanie and I splurged on a double room for some privacy an its super cute! Theres a tree painted on the wall and its very colonial themed. It is a lot cleaner than out previous hostel, Hostel Capitan Tom. The woman was so nice and it was ok for the price but I feel much more at home here at this place. Its colorful, clean, decorated and lively. Its also in a cooler part of town with bars and young people. Granted the whole city is only like a mile by a mile... Its perfect though.

3:51pm
Im back at El Hostel. Its nice to come back to a clean, relaxing place. This afternoon we were getting ready to do some exploring when a girl also looked like she was getting ready to explore the city. I jumped on the chance to have someone new to talk to and join us. Emily did join us for the hike up to Cerro de la Cruz which is a lookout of the city. We got a little turned around getting up there (I blame the map!!) but it was beautiful at the top and it was nice having Emily join us. She had some great life stories. On the way up, I ran into Ashley who was at the Yoga forest with us and she's super sweet. Such a small world!

After the beautiful views of Antigua, Melanie and I went and checked out La Iglesia y Convento de las Capuchians which was a pretty cool run down church and convent from like the 1800s? I think? We took tons of pictures and sat in the sun for awhile, soaking it up. Then we walked around some more and explored Iglesia San Francisco. It was a pretty church with a really cool market out front. We watched some women weaving there for a bit. They made some beautiful things like table runners that I couldn't see myself owning but were so well done. They were hand made and even told a story like one had the national bird - Quetzal and volcanoes.

8:34 pm
We had a quiet dinner at Cafe Sky which was delicious and the views front heir sky bar were pretty fantastic. I had a spinach and cheese quesadilla. Yum! Happy hour after dinner was at the Hostel and we had wine. Across the street there is blues music tonight but I dont think I can stay up for it. My sleep schedule is go to bed early/wake up early. Might be time for bed soon...

Red = Passion

Yesterday, I had a shit-eating grin as I was winding through local streets, pedaling and feeling the warm breeze in my hair. I recently, in the last month, moved to the DC area and have been struggling to fit in and find my place. This month, Ty and I got our own room in a place that we share with a few others that are our roommates in our new town. But there are still so many things that are missing in my life. I need yoga, rock climbing and freedom to get around on my own. On Tuesday afternoon, I took that first step at transportation freedom in the form of a two wheeled vehicle. I took the metro to Virginia which is a bit of a ride from my new home on the Maryland side. I stopped at one of the last metro stops and walked out into the sunny, nice weather. I was meeting someone from craigslist who was selling a little, red Schwinn bike. I exited the station and immediately saw the little red bike being held up by a sweet looking, older man. I introduced myself, took the bike for a...

Runners High

At 12:30pm, I stepped outside for the first time all day. I hadn't really even left my room until I realized that if I didnt go outside, I probably would bum it all afternoon. I put my running shoes on and bounced outside. I started walking and after I got myself settled, I started to run. After being cooped up, those first few steps of an outdoor run is so magical. The feeling of freedom, fresh air and adrenaline is fantastic. I always have a mad smile and excitement for being able to move so fast. After my first few minutes of running, thats when the exhaustion sets in. What keeps me going longer, is adventure. Do I like running? Not really. Do I enjoy exploring? Obviously. I decided to check out a new part of the power line trail that I have not seen before and ran up the hills, or on straight path, and walked down hills. I went to the beginning of the trail and back again, smiling at the other people who were also out for their afternoon walk/bike. The sun came out and it...

To Brittian and Back

Today Amber, Dana and I woke up early to go on an adventure. 6:23 to be exact. How I know that is because Ty had to call me to wake Dana and I up from our very deep slumber. I sprung awake and got ready in record time to try to help Ty jump his car. Only it didn't work so we had to wake up my roommate to drive us all. The three ladies convened at the dock where our boat trip would leave. We were all a little tired but mostly excited for our long overdue adventure and being tourists for the day. We started our tip with about an hour long boat ride to Virgin Gorda, British Virgin Islands (BVI), the three of us talking about anything and everything that came to mind. Once we got to Virgin Gorda, everyone on the trip took a taxi over to the baths. The baths (BVI) are a geologic structure in which volcanic rock is pushed up near the water to create tunnels, pools, arches and grottoes. There are only two baths in the world, one being in the BVI, so it was super cool that we got to go...
