Internationally

I received a USbank gift card before heading down here and have only been able to use it once... So I called the cardmember service number to see what the deal was. Here is how my conversation with Amber, the cardmember service agent, went: Me: Hi Amber, I brought my card with me to the Virgin Islands and I was able to use it once and have tried other places but it won't work. Amber: I dont know how you were able to use it once but the card will not work internationally. Me: Im in the United States Virgin Islands. Amber: Oh... well... let me look at that... (silence for a minute) Amber: I dont know why it won't work, maybe those places you tried dont take gift cards? Me: Alright, well, Im headed back to the states in a couple months so its not a huge deal, I was just curious. Amber: Ok then, have a great day. A lot of people dont realize that there are United States Virgin Islands... lol

Brittian and Back Part II

So after Virgin Gorda, We hopped on our boat, the Bad Kitty, to our lunch spot. We ate looking out onto the water, eating some pretty delicious food. Then was our nap time. We relaxed on some comfy beach chairs until the horn from our boat sounded and it was time to get back on the water! Our next stop was a snorkel spot! The three of us had a blast tooling around seeing cool stuff. We were the last ones back onto the boat. Here are some pictures Amber took: Then off to Jost Van Dyke, BVI. There we walked along the beach, enjoyed the sun and hung out at the famous Soggy Dollar bar. This beach was one in which you pull up by boat and swim to land. It was pretty fun except after drying off and warming up, it was hard to get back into the cool water. After the beach it was the sad boat ride back to the USVI. I have my first stamp on my new passport though (why doesn't Canada stamp??)!! So we get back to St. Thomas and are walking back to Amber's dingy to head back ov

To Brittian and Back

Today Amber, Dana and I woke up early to go on an adventure. 6:23 to be exact. How I know that is because Ty had to call me to wake Dana and I up from our very deep slumber. I sprung awake and got ready in record time to try to help Ty jump his car. Only it didn't work so we had to wake up my roommate to drive us all. The three ladies convened at the dock where our boat trip would leave. We were all a little tired but mostly excited for our long overdue adventure and being tourists for the day. We started our tip with about an hour long boat ride to Virgin Gorda, British Virgin Islands (BVI), the three of us talking about anything and everything that came to mind. Once we got to Virgin Gorda, everyone on the trip took a taxi over to the baths. The baths (BVI) are a geologic structure in which volcanic rock is pushed up near the water to create tunnels, pools, arches and grottoes. There are only two baths in the world, one being in the BVI, so it was super cool that we got to go

Night Snorkel

Tonight, I led our Night Snorkel for the first time. I was super apprehensive about leading the snorkel for a few reasons.  1) Its at night. The boogie man comes out at night. Among other things that scare us at night.  2) When Im in the water, I tend to have a harder time determining where I am and it makes me nervous. 3) Im not completely comfortable as a snorkeler myself, so having to be in charge of others who are not great snorkelers makes me anxious. 4) What if we don't see anything or the guests are having a bad time or I can't point out anything?? 5) Its cold at night. What if I get too cold and want to come in early or am just miserable the whole time? So in any case, Ty has been doing a lot of the snorkeling because of this list and he told me that I was leading the snorkel tonight.  I had a good day and was feeling pretty good about the snorkel. There was only a family of four signed up, no problem.  The whole family was pretty receptive to eve

Adventure Day

Ty's friend Aundrea came to visit the last few days and we all had a good time playing tourist. Sunday we all went to St. John to explore. First we took a hike to the petroglyphs along the beach. We explored some old sugar plantations and relaxed by the water. I injured myself twice along the hike, but only minor... I consider that a success! Then we drove across the island to Cinnamon bay beach. Ty, Aundrea and I did some snorkeling and saw a lot of cool stuff! We also had a lot of fun playing in the sand under the water, following the ripples of sand with our hands. Then it was time to pack up (after warming ourselves up with a run along the beach) and head to our next location! We drove to Drunk bay which is a beach of coral rubble and rocks in which there are tons of "coral people" that visitors have made. There is where we watched the sunset and tried to stay warm! We were all exhausted so the long trek back over to St Thomas was daunting. On the ferry back o

Life on the Island

Ive got a few stories to update y'all on. Enjoy: A few nights ago I got up to use the bathroom and ice my no-see-um bites. The cats came in to give me company and then the little lady kitty had her eyes on something in the shower. I follow her gaze to see a HUGE cockroach. I nock the cockroach down, Im not killing it, Ill leave that job to the cats. I probably watched them bat around this cockroach for 5 minutes before lady crunched it in her mouth and carried it away. I knew it wasn't dead yet, but the cats had it under control... Wednesday was ladies night again. Ambers dude, Darren made it back on island after being away for 5 months so we decided we needed to celebrate. So, Ty, Amber, Darren and I went into Red Hook. We had a nice evening dancing and talking. Then it was time to take the dingy back. Darren was manning the front, Amber was driving. It was super windy so on our way over and we were getting splashed by the huge waves. We made it to the dock right as Ambers
