On Vacation... Kinda. [Part 1]

I dont even know where to begin or end. The last week Jake was here was super fun. I enjoyed exploring and feeling like I was on vacation with him! Even when I went to work I felt like I was on vacation. Long hair dont care at work... Im on vacation! haha.

We had two adventure days that were a lot of fun. Sunday we did the Bad Kitty trip to the BVI like I had done when Dana was here. We got to explore a little bit more of the Baths the second time around. I could have stayed there for hours roaming around the rocks. I also got to take an awesome split level picture:
We were lucky enough that the waves were more relaxed and we got to swim into the baths! That was a new fun experience as well. Then we got to have a grand ole time snorkeling and relaxing on the beach. It was super fun.

After we got back from the boat, it was time for us all to head to carnival. Its a big party, festival in town. By the time we got there however, I was exhausted from our long day and I just wanted to go to bed.

Tuesday was another adventure day! We started our day standing in a ridiculously long line to get our ferry tickets. It was a Disney day so the cruise ships were in town and everyone wanted to get on the ten o'clock ferry... Ty, Jake and I were talking about how we were going to get to our hiking trail. "Either the bus or a taxi" Ty said. The guy in front of us turned around and said "Are you talking about the taxi over here? It was super cheep! Only $10!" Ty kinda laughed a bit and said "no, no we are talking about when we get over to St. John." The guy looked a little disappointed at the fact that he couldn't spark small talk with us and turned around. Thats when I leaned over to Jake and said "Thats an expensive taxi... The safari is only $2 to get over here." Damn tourists, except you Jake :P

Once we got over to St. John, we hopped on the dollar bus to take us to the other side of the island. From there we started our hike. The first part of the hike was straight up a dangerous dirt road that was super steep. It was really hot and mostly in the sun, I felt like I had taken a shower in my own sweat.

Once the road leveled off and turned into a trail, it was an amazing hike. There were beautiful views and different plants. You could see blue water for miles.

Then we came upon the first of the ruins. It was an old estate that looked like it would have been beautiful in its prime. It was a really fun place to explore and eat lunch. It was just us there, nobody else.

Then was the second set of ruins which had an archway that showcased a beautiful view of the bay below with blue waters and sailboats. We had a fun time climbing and exploring there too.

Then down the dusty trail to the bay where we walked along the rocky beach to the Annaburg ruins. We saw a deer with fuzzy little horns on the way.

After taking naps, drinking almond tea, exploring Annaburg and rehydrating, we went on an adventure to our next location. This part of our day was mostly wandering around....

Red = Passion

Yesterday, I had a shit-eating grin as I was winding through local streets, pedaling and feeling the warm breeze in my hair. I recently, in the last month, moved to the DC area and have been struggling to fit in and find my place. This month, Ty and I got our own room in a place that we share with a few others that are our roommates in our new town. But there are still so many things that are missing in my life. I need yoga, rock climbing and freedom to get around on my own. On Tuesday afternoon, I took that first step at transportation freedom in the form of a two wheeled vehicle. I took the metro to Virginia which is a bit of a ride from my new home on the Maryland side. I stopped at one of the last metro stops and walked out into the sunny, nice weather. I was meeting someone from craigslist who was selling a little, red Schwinn bike. I exited the station and immediately saw the little red bike being held up by a sweet looking, older man. I introduced myself, took the bike for a...

Guatemala: Day One Adventure

The following is a conglomeration of journal writings that I made about my travel day to San Marcos, Guatemala and some additions to make it all run together smoothly: 11/5/15 6:60am Chicago I JUST made my first flight. It helped that the dude behind me in the security line was on my flight. We chatted a bit about travel and it eased my mind a little. I get so stressed out when Im not early... I had to take the earliest bus from Milwaukee at 4:30 am. I slept three hours. 10:55am ATL I think I smell... I didn't do that deodorant thing this morning. Whatever. I had less than an hour layover and had to run through the huge ATL airport to get to my gate. I got there with a bit of time though which is nice. Im between two not so fun humans. One is a very large man who thinks he can have half of my seat (though at least he seems nice) and an older woman who I don't think speaks good spanish or engligh. Also, when she's passed out its fine but as soon as she wakes up, the ...

Welcome to Kentucky

So Tyler and I have been driving for two days to get me to Kentucky tonight for my internship at the Reptile Zoo! (Which Im pretty excited for by the way) Its dark out and we are excited to almost be in Kentucky after passing through so many other states the whole day. We drive over this hill and this is what we see: The sky is all lit up orange and its kind of flickering and both Ty and I go “oh F***” Something is on fire and we think theres a horrible exploding accident on the highway. As we come down this hill, we notice that there is no horrible accident but theres fire from a factory. The orange lights are lighting up the foggy night sky and its glaring. Orange lights, smoke stacks and fires from the factory are all over and we are disgusted. It is the ugliest thing I have ever seen. There is a billboard with an american flag (‘MERICA!) and we find out its an oil factory. On the other part of the highway is a sign as we come over the bridge: Welcome to Kentucky.  Not...
