Guatemala: Waking up in Paradise

I just got through some writing exercises and the girls in my retreat are wonderful! I feel like I can be myself around them. The property is so beautiful. Its very one-with-nature. Compost toilets, biodegradable products, farm animals, gardens and all of us hardly produce any trash. Nothing is disposable, lots of reusables and everyone is thinking about how they can make a smaller footprint. But its not hard, its just how it is. They make it really easy to be more connected to nature.

Its that time of night, dusk, where people turn on lights but its still just light enough to see. I LOVE this time, only when I can really appreciate it. Like camping, or glamping like I feel like I'm doing now. Its so peaceful and quiet. The night animals start to come out and the daytime animals get sleepy. Like me now, been a long few days with not a whole lot of sleep.
Ive been relaxing on the hammock outside the cabana after dinner and could probably fall asleep but we have a drum ceremony tonight that sounds like it could be interesting.

We sat around a fire and learned some drum beats with a guy named Thor. It was pretty fun to just let go. Now its time for some much needed sleep.

Bio Bay, PR positives

The coolest part of our trip to Puerto Rico was definitely the Bioluminescent Bay in Vieques [side note, bioluminescence is a big word, mostly it just means stuff that lights up but scientifically it means 'bio'-life, 'lumin'-light, 'escence'-to put forth. So, life that puts forth light!] It was an experience that I cannot easily put into words. The night started out a bit strange. We got picked up at our hostel at 9pm, along with 5 other girls, by a thirty-something, long-haired gentleman. He walked us about a block to the van that would transport us to the bio-bay. The van was, well, to put it nicely, a fixer-upper. It had bench seats which were collapsing, the roof fabric was falling down, it puttered around and squeaked during turns. Ty and I joked that we were paying 40 bucks to get murdered in this van especially when we turned down a dirt, side street that was full of pot holes. Eating Like Crap is Crap

Im trying really hard not to spend money on food as there is so much food here at camp. Its not horrible food but its definitely not the best. So, with me trying not to spend money on food, I haven't been eating the greatest. I don't know if its because of other reasons, but Ive been feeling like shit lately and Im attributing it to lack of nutrients. I dont know how people eat crap all the time and survive. It must be a skill. I was eating alright about two weeks ago but this last week it hasn't been very pretty. Ive been a scavenger and theres been a lot of bread and fake meat and here is how I feel: Im tired ALL the time. No matter how many naps I take or hours I sleep a night, Im always exhausted by mid-day and just want to lay around, sleep and do nothing. Ive also been starting to get weak headaches throughout the day. Or having sore muscles from doing minimal exercise. That also makes me just want to do nothing. My stomach is also crazy. Summerfest Day 1

Amazing. I was just going tonight to hang and see some bands, no expectations, but SFest delivered on its first day. My friend Alex and I got there a bit early so we walked around the shops and the smaller stages. We stumbled upon Five Knives which were like a hip-hop-y Ke$ha. If you know me at all you'd know that I probably loved it. They were pretty fun. Then a bit later when we were sitting watching a local sax band play, the fireworks started. I never NEED to see the big bang but its always a pleasure when I see it. I got great seats by accident sitting on a table. I always have a smile on my face when I watch colorful explosions in the sky. Then, the white out, massive explosion that is the epic finale. I couldn't see anything for at least a minute afterwards. I love when the loudness is felt in your heart and there is so much going on that its just a colorful mess. Most excellent. Then we went to find Bastille.
