How to Save Money

Step one, be a mooch. Haha, just kidding, kind of...

Because EVERYTHING is so damn expensive here, I've been looking into ways that I can save money while Im here. I really needed some face scrub and conditioner but have been putting them off because, what would be an 8 dollar face scrub in the states, is like 13 dollars here... no thank you.

Today, I made my own face scrub. Ive never looked into doing that before because, well, Im lazy and I can buy good stuff for relatively cheap. I used coconut oil mixed with sugar and a little bit of cinnamon and honey. My face feels amazingly smooth and clean after using it! I may just be saving a ton of money for myself in the future!

Also, a good body scrub? Just buy sea salt and take it in the shower with you. Ive been doing this for years and have noticed a positive change with my skin. Silky smooth softness.

Having friends who live here is also a plus. Amber had a bunch of stuff that she inherited from friends who left the island which then was passed on to me for my stay here. Shampoo, conditioner, sunscreen, towels. Amber you da best! Ty helped out with a few things as well. Pays to have friends!

On a side note, I need to start working out more. That way I can save money by not needing to see a shrink. After a hard day at work yesterday, I went for a run and I felt much more level-headed afterwards. Internet to stream music off of Spotify also helps make me not crazy.
Im not actually crazy y'all... But exercising does make me feel better :)

Red = Passion

Yesterday, I had a shit-eating grin as I was winding through local streets, pedaling and feeling the warm breeze in my hair. I recently, in the last month, moved to the DC area and have been struggling to fit in and find my place. This month, Ty and I got our own room in a place that we share with a few others that are our roommates in our new town. But there are still so many things that are missing in my life. I need yoga, rock climbing and freedom to get around on my own. On Tuesday afternoon, I took that first step at transportation freedom in the form of a two wheeled vehicle. I took the metro to Virginia which is a bit of a ride from my new home on the Maryland side. I stopped at one of the last metro stops and walked out into the sunny, nice weather. I was meeting someone from craigslist who was selling a little, red Schwinn bike. I exited the station and immediately saw the little red bike being held up by a sweet looking, older man. I introduced myself, took the bike for a...

Guatemala: Day One Adventure

The following is a conglomeration of journal writings that I made about my travel day to San Marcos, Guatemala and some additions to make it all run together smoothly: 11/5/15 6:60am Chicago I JUST made my first flight. It helped that the dude behind me in the security line was on my flight. We chatted a bit about travel and it eased my mind a little. I get so stressed out when Im not early... I had to take the earliest bus from Milwaukee at 4:30 am. I slept three hours. 10:55am ATL I think I smell... I didn't do that deodorant thing this morning. Whatever. I had less than an hour layover and had to run through the huge ATL airport to get to my gate. I got there with a bit of time though which is nice. Im between two not so fun humans. One is a very large man who thinks he can have half of my seat (though at least he seems nice) and an older woman who I don't think speaks good spanish or engligh. Also, when she's passed out its fine but as soon as she wakes up, the ...

To Brittian and Back

Today Amber, Dana and I woke up early to go on an adventure. 6:23 to be exact. How I know that is because Ty had to call me to wake Dana and I up from our very deep slumber. I sprung awake and got ready in record time to try to help Ty jump his car. Only it didn't work so we had to wake up my roommate to drive us all. The three ladies convened at the dock where our boat trip would leave. We were all a little tired but mostly excited for our long overdue adventure and being tourists for the day. We started our tip with about an hour long boat ride to Virgin Gorda, British Virgin Islands (BVI), the three of us talking about anything and everything that came to mind. Once we got to Virgin Gorda, everyone on the trip took a taxi over to the baths. The baths (BVI) are a geologic structure in which volcanic rock is pushed up near the water to create tunnels, pools, arches and grottoes. There are only two baths in the world, one being in the BVI, so it was super cool that we got to go...
